"We have stayed in this beautiful farmhouse in the centre of Gascony twice, once as a couple and then as a family with our 6 month year old daughter. We found it to be very well equipped even with a young baby, the house was always found to be clean and tidy when we arrived and the garden well maintained.

We visited many places but our favourite was Condom with its river cruises, shops and baby friendly bars and restaurants, the local Armagnac Chateaux of Cassaigne was beautiful with its walks through the vineyards and wildlife and of course the degustation! The fortified town of Larressingle was enchanting with its entrance over a pretty little bridge and within the walls a small Roman style church and various other small buildings. The town of Valence is just down the road, it has two restaurants, two patisseries a weekly market and a news agents selling English papers, the square has recently been renovated and is absolutely beautiful with the Hotel de Ville in all its glory, there is also a very good tourist information centre in both Valence and Condom.

We tended to not eat out in the evenings because of our daughter, we spent our time relaxing on the terrace eating the local food and drinking the local wines whilst our daughter slept in the travel cot provided. The kitchen is particularly well equipped much like home and with a washing machine and tumble dryer at our disposal it was a real home from home. We had a small problem on our first visit knowing where to put the bins, but the lady that manages the property lives in Valence a beautiful town just down the road that was extremely helpful and her daughter speaks English much better than I can speak French which was welcome!

We have visited in September and July, July was particularly hot so during the hottest part of the day we put our daughter in the coolest part of the house and bought a small paddling pool for her, the old farmhouse has really thick walls so keeps relatively cool. We will definitely be booking again this year as it is so convenient for us, we left Bristol airport on a cheap easy jet flight at noon and we were at the house by 4pm that afternoon, fantastic if you don't want to much travelling!

We will definitely be booking again and would recommend this property and destination to anyone who loves the French way of life.”

“We had a wonderful time in Ampeils. The house is beautiful and you should be very proud of what you have created.

You asked for any suggestions. Only 3 as we were generally delighted, emergency fans, albeit the heat was probably exceptional. Second was sunbeds/sunloungers. Lastly, it would be helpful to have contact details for nearest doctor and hospital.”

Reply – information and advice on how to keep the house cool in very hot weather and contact details are now supplied with the house information. Additional sun loungers are now on the terrace.

“Firstly I would like to say a big 'Thank You' for the use of your beautiful home!  I knew that it would be lovely from the photographs but it surpassed my expectations.  When we arrived we were absolutely overwhelmed by it and the charming village of Ampelis.  It was set in an ideal, quiet, rural location but with everything you could need on the doorstep.  We were also impressed by how well stocked the house was – from the cutlery and crockery to the CD and DVD collections, we wanted for nothing! 

We did as suggested with regards to the shutters.  We kept them closed upstairs and just opened the ones we needed (e.g. the kitchen and lounge area).  It really did keep it cool.  Valence sur Baise is a very pretty village and has a wonderful butchers and bakers and we were lucky enough to fall upon the night time market on 2nd August.  On the second to last day, we discovered a very convenient InterMarche just outside Vic-Fezensac.  If you turn right out of the gates, it is only about 10-15 mins down that road, which we found a lot more straight forward to get to than the one in Condom (the local roads are fantastic).  I can highly recommend Castera Verduzan for a day at the Lake – it had a water slide into the lake, pedalo hire, small café for simple snacks/drinks, a play area, grassed and sandy, plenty of trees for shade and really family friendly for any age.  The town is also lovely with a small ‘8 to huit’ supermarket on the way home which was great for ingredients for our evening meal when we got home – we could have the BBQ fired up and cooking within half an hour to feed the hungry swimmers.  We took a trip to Auch too which was really lovely but spent most of our time relaxing at the house… what more could we want. 

All in all we had a fantastic time with a good mix of exploring and relaxing.  I would not hesitate to recommend your home and would hope to come back and stay again.”
